Margaret Thornley Williams

May 26, 1921 a€" February 20, 2013

Loved by many, and always known as "Meg", our elegant Mother slipped serenely from our arms, and headed toward her much-loved Buss and the stars of forever on the afternoon of February 20. She died of natural causes at home, at the wise-old age of 91, surrounded by her family and friends, who kissed her goodbye, until we meet again. Meg never admitted to being older than 39, so she may not like this admission for the purpose of good record keeping. For those who knew and adored her, her nails were polished and her hair was perfectly in place when she caught sight of Dad and ran toward the portals of Heaven. We are sure she was wearing those famous red cowboy boots.

Our Meg was born May 26, 1921 and grew up in Layton, Utah and on the mountain ranches of Thornley Land and Livestock Company. She was the third child of William J. Thornley and Harriet Dickson Thornley. Meg shared ponies, mules, horses, hard ranch work, chores and growing-up adventures with two brothers and three sisters. Four of those wild Thornley kids have preceded Meg down the last trail ride. Her much loved sister, Golda Downs, Meg''s golf buddy, riding companion, and "date" every Wednesday for sister lunch, along with lifelong friend Marge Whitesides, remain behind to wave her on, put up her flag and hold our hands as we kiss our Mother, Sister, Friend, and loyal ally farewell.

Meg first raised the sword of freedom at the beginning of World War II when she enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. She was stationed at Marine Headquarters, Washington D.C. It was there she met up again with Frank "Buss" Williams, a school mate from Davis High School in Kaysville, Utah. They courted at the Washington Union Station, falling in love on weekend passes. On September 17, 1944, Meg married her soul mate and eternal companiona€"just days before Buss shipped out to Europe to fight for the USA.

Her passion for America was fierce. She remained a steadfast patriot and resolute defender of our Nation to the end. Her favorite blanket is embroidered with her personal motto, "Freedom Isn''t Free." Her favorite decoration was the American Flag. She taught us the importance of commitment, loyalty, remaining steadfast and staying the course. Others may waiver, but not our Meg. We all knew our inspiring Marine would guard and protect us with her entire being. And yes, she remained a Marine until the end.

Meg''s life was filled with adventure and travel. She lived in Utah, Washington DC, Wyoming, Montana, and California. She and her Buss retired back to the Kaysville area where she was active in the LDS church, and participated with family, friends and community until the end of her days.

Mother Meg is survived by two daughters and one son, Toni K Williams-Jones, Duke R. Williams, Jonel Camberari, nine grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at 10 a.m. at Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road. Friends may visit family Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Logan City Cemetery at 3 p.m.

Our Meg''s life demonstrated, always, those values of service, devotion, and integrity. Her every action was packaged in style, service and loyalty. We will ever be guided by her example. We will miss you mightily, but speed on dear Mother... we will all be along shortly. Semper Fi, Mom.
