Margene Speth Sant

Margene Speth Sant passed away on Tuesday, December 5, 2017, in Ogden, Utah after a short hospitalization. She lived a full and purposeful 91 years, married for nearly 50 years, and raised five sons and one daughter.

Margene was born on April 17, 1926 in Smithfield, Utah to Carl and Edith Merle Harwood Speth in Smithfield, Utah. After graduating from South Cache High School, she met George V. Sant while he was home on furlough, prior to going overseas during WWII.  That initial relationship continued to blossom through war correspondence, and they were married the April 10, 1946 in the Logan LDS Utah Temple.  They lived in College Ward for six years before moving to Pleasant View where they lived in two locations for the last 62 years with Ben Lomond Mountain as their back yard.  She is survived by her sons, Gregg (Sherri), Kevin (Roselyn), Creon (Christie), and Preston (Laura); daughter, Kaleen; along with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.   She was preceded in death by her husband, (George); son, Karl (Beverly); a daughter-in-law; a grandson; a great-grandson; and along with her parents; sisters, Darlene and Merle; brother, Ken.

As a young woman, Margene loved to dance and one of the first dates she went on with George was to a dance. When she first met him, she tripped coming down the stairs, and George was fond of telling how she "fell" for him the first time she saw him.

She served as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints working for 50 consecutive years in the primary organization. She helped support her family by working in the elementary school food program for several years. Margene loved to work in her yard and always had beautiful flowers growing around the house.  She has 17 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 11, 2017 at 11 a.m. at the Pleasant View 12th Ward Chapel, 896 West Pleasant View Dr. Friends may visit with family on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s North Ogden Mortuary, 2140 N. Washington Blvd. and Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment, Ben Lomond Cemetery.
