Margie Kathleen “Kathy” Atkinson Marsh
July 24, 1947 ~ June 16, 2015
Heaven shone a little brighter on the afternoon of June 16, 2015, as Margie Kathleen “Kathy” Atkinson Marsh was welcomed home and into the loving arms of her beloved Savior. While many are shedding tears at her passing, she has been freed of the pain and anguish she endured over the course of the past 10 years.
Kathy was born on July 24, 1947, to LeRoy and Margie Williams Atkinson in Tremonton, Utah. She graduated from Bear River High School in 1965 and immediately began a clerical career with the US Forest Service. She finished her 15 years with the Forest Service as a Land Use Planner.
She married William Keith Marsh on January 11, 1975. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Ogden LDS Temple on November 11, 1980. Keith and Kathy were blessed to become the parents of two beautiful and talented daughters, Jennifer (Brock) Thurgood and Kimberlee Paige (Michael) Hansen, and are the loving grandparents of Kale Shane Boyer, Tyce Evans Thurgood, Liv Kathleen Thurgood, and Gracie Mae Thurgood.
Kathy served in many church callings beginning with East Garland Ward Primary organist at age 12. She has served diligently and faithfully in every calling since then, including teaching and leadership assignments in ward and stake level Primaries and Relief Societies wherever she and Keith lived. She demonstrated her deep witness and testimony of her Savior as she found her greatest joy in serving her family and those whose paths she felt blessed to cross. From tenderly applying a band-aid to the finger of a Uintah Elementary student (who may or may not have had a cut on that finger) to providing solace to any acquaintance she believed needed kind or encouraging words or a little extra attention, her desire to serve others with a loving heart was just who she was.
Kathy began her service at Uintah Elementary as a PTA president. She was heavily involved with this organization at the local and regional levels for many years. Kathy became the head secretary at Uintah Elementary in 1991 and served until 2013. She was honored to be named the Weber School District classified employee of the year in 2008. She knew by name and loved all of her Uintah Mustang students and enjoyed working with the teachers, custodians, cooks, and aides there. She felt privileged to assist six different principals during her tenure and did her best to serve the entire Uintah Mustang community each day she worked. The multitude of friendships made at Uintah was a great and lasting blessing in her life.
Kathy was also greatly blessed to have a loving circle of dear friends who checked in on her daily and made these years of illness so much more bearable. She was always so grateful for their love and concern.
Kathy is survived by her husband, daughters, stepchildren, Becky (Mark) Johnson and Steven Keith (Judy) Marsh; grandchildren, step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, her sister, Lynette Atkinson; and many beloved cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Jeffrey LeRoy Atkinson; and her son-in-law, Shane Joseph Boyer.
