Marguerite Adams

1917 ~ 2011

Marguerite Barlow Adams, born February 4, 1917, died July 30, 2011 in peace and surrounded by her family at her home in Layton, Utah at the age of ninety-four. The final week of her life was spent receiving visits from loving friends and family under the compassionate and tender care of her seven children.

She was the fourth of five children born to Ianthus H. and Marguerite "Ellen" Patterson Barlow in Clearfield, Utah. During her school years her family moved back and forth between Utah and Idaho. She graduated from seminary and Davis High School in 1935.

Her grandfather owned the A&W Root Beer Barrel in Clearfield where she worked as a teen and met her sweetheart, Darold Adams. They were united in marriage on May 17, 1937, in the Salt Lake City Temple and purchased a home in Layton, Utah on the George Henry Adams family farm. They enjoyed sixty-six beautiful years of marriage before Darold''s death in 2003, living all their married life in the Clearfield and Layton area. During their years together they were able to travel extensively to eleven countries and all but two of the U.S. states. Marguerite lived the last four years of her life at Legacy House Assisted Living in South Ogden where she made wonderful friends.

As a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she was always a visiting teacher and also served as drama director, Ward Young Women''s President, Stake Young Women''s Presidency Counselor, Ward Relief Society President, Relief Society teacher, and in many other callings. She loved all of her callings and considered each one the best calling she ever had. Together, Marguerite and Darold served two temple missions and also a couple''s mission to Beeville, Texas. Her life was filled with the joy of service to family, community, and church.

As a young woman, Marguerite excelled at speech and drama and gave readings at socials throughout the county. She became well known as an excellent cook, candy maker, and seamstress. Her artistic skills provided hundreds of painted ceramics, dolls, and beautiful china plates. Many of her works received awards including a "Best of Show" at Davis County Fair. She taught china painting at the Ogden Senior Center and the Clearfield Senior Center. As a teacher, she belonged to the National China Painting Worldwide Association, and her plates are registered there.

Marguerite had a beautiful singing voice and she always carried a song in her heart. She enjoyed singing and would brighten each day with song.

She demonstrated unconditional love and was a patient listener. Those who knew her enjoyed the benefit of a true and giving friend. She will always be remembered for her wisdom and grace.

In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by all of her siblings and their spouses, Howard (Merle), Mildred (Don) Taylor, Lois (John) Young, Dale (Fern); and one grandson, Louis Izatt.

She is survived by all seven of her children, Margene (Kelly) Bambrough of South Weber, UT. Mary Ellen (Joel) Izatt of Clearfield, UT, Stanley (Shona) of College Place, WA, DeAnn Hansen of Layton, UT, Jenneal (Richard) Hansen of Eagle, ID, Shellee (Mark) Vernon of Cheltenham, England, Barbara (Michael) Lee of Midway, UT; thirty-four grandchildren; sixty-four great-grandchildren; and ten great-great grandchildren. She loved each one of them immensely and was very proud of their accomplishments.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 6, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Road, Layton. Friends may visit family Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9:45 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Clearfield City Cemetery.
