Marguerite Harris

Marguerite Wickes Sessions Peterson Alsup Harris

March 5, 1928 ~ January 7, 2015

Marguerite W. Harris, a resident of South Ogden, Utah, passed away on January 7, 2015 at the age of 86, of bone marrow cancer and heart failure.  She was born in Portland, Oregon, on March 5, 1928, the first daughter born to Horace and Wilhelmina Catherine Lemann Wickes.  The family moved several times, before finding a home in Utah.  She attended Ogden City Schools, but obtained her GED diploma at the wonderful age of 30.

She met and married Lorraine “Larry” Sessions, and they had a daughter, Marcia, but were later divorced.  She then met Arthur Peterson while living in Uintah, Utah, and had two red haired sons, Tom and Alan.  Upon Art’s passing, the family returned to Ogden.  While working at Hill AFB, she met and married Phil S. Alsup, and they added a son, Kevin to the growing family. Phil adopted all the children and made them a family. They moved to Plain City, Utah, where they added two more sons, Brian and Phil Jr.  They lived a wonderful life together for over 40 years.  After Phil’s death, Mom moved to California where she met and married Harry Harris, the local game warden and spent five wonderful years learning about the local history.  He later passed away.

Marguerite was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many positions, but the time spent serving the Church in four different missions in the Family History Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, was her favorite.  She took pride in the fact she was able to recently help in the LDS Census work on the computer.

Mom was a wonderful cook, an avid fisher woman, loved to knit and crochet, but most of all, she spent her life loving her family.

Marguerite is survived by her children, Marcia (Ken) Smith, Tom Alsup, Alan (Miriam) Alsup, Kevin Alsup, Brian Alsup, and Phil (Barbara) Alsup; one sister, Eleanor (Leith) Tolboe; 14 grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren who loved to call her “Grandma Great”.  She was a special spirit who accepted all as friend and everyone who ever came to know her, also came to love her.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, parents, brothers, Bill Wickes and Harry Wickes; and two sisters, Rosemary Rasmussen and Natalie Kimball.

There are many loved ones waiting with tears in their eyes, and there are many loved ones who will miss this sweet spirit, with tears in their eyes.  We love you Mom, and will miss your sweet smile and loving heart.  Your spirit will live within us and forever in our hearts.

The family wishes to gratefully express gratitude for the loving care given to Mom by Gentiva Hospice and Comfort Keepers.

Per her wishes, Graveside services for family members and close friends will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2015 at11 a.m. at the Plain City Cemetery.  Services entrusted to Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary.
