Maria “Mary” Cecelia Peña Gonzales
11/21/28 – 9/22/11
Ogden – Maria “Mary” Cecelia Peña Gonzales passed away peacefully at home in Ogden, Thursday, September 22, 2011 with family at her side.
Mary was born November 21, 1928 in Grand Junction, Colorado to Augustine Peña and Delores Gonzales Peña. She was the sixth of seven children. She married her soul mate, the love of her life, whom she referred to as her “honey”, Maximilliano Eugenio “Gene” Gonzales on June 1, 1947 in Nampa, Idaho. This past year Mary and Gene celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary. Mary was the most wonderful example of how a wife, mother, grandmother, great and great-great grandmother should be.
Mary retired as a librarian from H.A.F.B. She also worked as a Senior Companion after her retirement. She always gave of her time to help others. Her homemade meals and specialty dishes were the best! She had many creative talents such as her crocheting, which will be handed down for generations to come.
Mary was a member of Victory Assembly of God and taught Sunday school for many years. She was a perfect example of a Christian woman; she loved God, her husband, her children, along with her loved ones. She was the prayer warrior in our family; a very strong determined woman and was admired for these abilities. Her encouraging words will be with us forever.
Mary is survived by her husband Gene, six children: Linda Delores Woolley, Ruby Selena Thatcher, Victoria Christine (Ralph) Ramos, Augustine Manuel Gonzales, Anthony Charles Gonzales, Mark Eugene (Lorraine) Gonzales; 16 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-granddaughters.
“Mama, your honey, children and grandchildren will miss you more than words can say; rest assured we will be together again. Enjoy worshiping and praising God for eternity.”
Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 29, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit family on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary.
