Mariam Joan Welker

January 25, 1933 ~ July 22, 2014

“Let us rejoice in mom’s death as we have all witnessed that there are life challenges that are far worse than death and finally her life has been made whole and she is finally at peace.”

Our loving mother, nan, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, Mariam Joan Welker, 81, passed away in the early morning hours on July 22, 2014. Mariam was born on January 25, 1933 and was the daughter of Leslie McCollum and Myrtle Mae Combe Crouch.  She grew up in Ogden and graduated from Ogden High School.

Mariam married Donald Lawrence Welker on June 22, 1951 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.  Donald passed away on March 3, 1987.  Mom and dad spent many years traveling the country with their close friends Jerry and Marva Brown.  A friendship that has continued to this day.

Mariam was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  She served faithfully in the Relief Society and Young Womens Organization.

Mom worked as a personal secretary at Ogden Clinic for Dr. Imus and Dr. Wheelwright.  She formed lifelong friendships at Ogden Clinic that would continue for many years after she had retired.

Mom enjoyed traveling, gardening, reading, attending Jazz games, and hangin out for breakfast at Snappy’s Cafe.

Mariam is survived by her four children, Michael Crouch Welker (Jodi), Julie Lynn Cottle (Terry), Washington Terrace; Jodie Ann Lovan (Deon), South Ogden; and Jana Lee Welker, Clearfield; two brothers, Larry Crouch and Bruce Crouch; two sisters, Sherrie Henderson and Sylvia Tacconi.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Welker; grandsons, Matthew Welker, Dorian Oliver Wybrow, and Kayden Lee Wybrow.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 26, 2014 at 1 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.  Friends may visit with family on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Saturday from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at the mortuary.

Interment, Lindquist’s Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Rd.

We would like to especially thank Carley, Kelsey, and Josh for the love and the wonderful care that they showed our mom for the last six years.  Also thanks to Rachael, Silvia, Angelina, and Maria who without their special touch of kindness they showed our mom her days would have been much longer.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made at alz.org in her memory.
