Marian Wilson Laird

Our dear mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and the Matriarch of our family, Marian W. Laird, returned home to her Heavenly Father on Tuesday, October 16, 2012 at the age of 89. Marian was born in Ogden, Utah on September 20, 1923 to her loving parents Earl Ray and Mabel E. Morrison Wilson. Her father passed away when she was 12 years old. She grew up in Ogden with her two siblings attending Ogden City Schools and graduating from Ogden High School in 1941. Marian was employed at the Ogden Arsenal during WWII and attended Weber State College.

Marian married Alvin George Laird on May 7, 1949. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on June 8, 1964. Together they were blessed with and successfully raised three children in a wonderful home. She was a devoted wife, nurturer and loving mother. Al passed away in 1983. Though separated by his passing they were never far apart.

She was employed as a secretary at Weber State College and Highland Jr. High School for many years and retired from the Ogden School District after 17 years of service.

An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Marian served in many callings and enjoyed her service in both Stake and Ward Primary, Relief Society, Young Women and Sunday School organizations.

Mom and dad loved and cherished their travels to Hawaii and San Francisco, their Saturday football games in Logan and the bridge club gatherings with their friends. She loved serving in the Ogden LDS Temple, golfing with the Golf City Ladies Association and going to the Cousin''s luncheon every week. She traveled to various countries and places with family and friends. We always looked forward to and cherished her traditional family Easter egg hunts in the backyard and the time spent with her at the yearly family reunions in Island Park, ID.

Marian is survived by her children, John (Linda) Laird, Idaho Falls, ID; Paul (Jeri) Laird, Ogden, UT; and Laurie (Doug) Child, Layton, UT. She was a loving and inspirational grandmother to 9 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren whom she adored. Mom will be greatly missed and will be forever in our hearts.

She was preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband, Alvin; brother, Keith Wilson and sister, Dorothy Milam.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 20, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Lindquist''s Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Road.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to the LDS Church Missionary or Perpetual Education Fund.

A special thanks to her neighbors, Apple Village in Layton and Specialty Nursing Services for the wonderful care they provided to mom.
