Marian Schoss

Marian Frances McNally Morby Schoss passed away peacefully on December 9, 2013. She is now free to be herself again.

Marian was born on September 7, 1922 in Deeth, Nevada to Patrick Francis and Hazel McDermott McNally.

She lived in a box car house when very young as her family traveled so her father could inspect the safety of the tracks of the Southern Pacific Railroad.

When it was time to start school, the family settled in Elko, Nevada. She attended grade school there.

The family transferred to Ogden with the railroad and she attended Sacred Heart Academy, St. Joseph''s School and graduated from Ogden High School.

Marian''s first job was at American Can Co. and then she worked at Lancaster Kasting.

She married Walter Morby on October 2, 1948 and had three children. He died June 7, 1963.

Following his death she went to work at the Ogden School Board in Pupil Personnel, bought a house for her children to grow up in and sent them to parochial schools. After several years she found a fulltime position running the switchboard at Job Service, a position she loved, and eventually retired from Job Service. She loved working because of the people with whom she worked and made lifelong friends at each of her jobs.

She married Ferrin G. Schoss on September 14, 1974 and embraced his family as her own.

Marian loved reading and instilled that love in her children. She also loved listening to Pavarotti, Josh Groban, and Barbra Streisand. She most loved hearing Marisa sing.

She crocheted many beautiful afghans for her family.

Her greatest joy was in listening to her family and friends and making them feel understood and important. This is her legacy.

Marian is survived by her sister and best friend, Louise McNally; her children and step-children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, Jil Morby, Marisa Morby, John, Angie and Charlie Morby, David and Linda Schoss, Jennifer, Bob, Kayla, Dane and Tyler Durrant, Matt, Cheryl, Garrett, Jack, Cooper and Molly Schoss, Heather, Jay, Justin and Jordan Jacobs, Heidi and Tony Gibson, Melany and Wade Hillstead, and Karen Schoss; and her dear friend, Marilyn Ward.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Jack, her daughter Patti, her first husband Walt and her second husband Ferrin.

Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, December 19, 2013 at 10 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church, 1100 East 5550 South, Ogden, with Father Charles Cummins officiating. Friends may visit with family on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. with Rosary at 7 p.m. at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.
