Marie Crook Brough

Marie Crook Brough (58), loving wife, sister, mother and grandmother, passed away Saturday, August 5, 2017 after battling metastatic breast cancer. She was born in Afton, Wyoming on March 4, 1959 to Lyman Fred Crook and Larue Marchant Crook. She grew up in Freedom, Wyoming, the youngest of six children.

After graduating from Star Valley High School she attended LDS Business College in Salt Lake City, UT. As a young adult she served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in upstate New York where she shared her testimony of Jesus Christ.

In 1985 she married Gary Hess Brough in the Salt Lake City LDS temple. They were blessed with four children. By example, she taught her children to love unconditionally, forgive, find humor in life, and have faith in Jesus Christ.  At the time of her death she resided with her husband in Memphis, Tennessee.

Marie was actively involved in religious and community endeavors. She served as president of the Utah Optometric Association Auxiliary, President of the American Foundation for Vision Awareness, was involved in her children’s schools, especially PTA, and served in a variety of positions in her church. She opened her home to others, including two foreign exchange students, Kana Yoneda and Kyoko Michimoto. Over the course of the past four years, Marie became a “mom” to 28 sister missionaries who lived with them.

Marie spent her time working as an administrative assistant at State Systems, Inc., continually dating her husband of 32 years, talking long distance with her children, and spoiling her grandchildren. She enjoyed crafts, sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ, and researching genealogy and family history.

She is survived by her husband, Gary H. Brough, sister, Vicki Hoth, three brothers: Richard (Karen) Crook, Ronald (Barbara) Crook, Tracy (Laurie) Crook; four children: Deena (Trevor) Giraud, Brian Brough, Michael Brough, and Ashley Brough; and two grandsons: Tyler and Nathan Giraud. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Val.

Funeral services will be held Monday, August 14, 2017 at 11 a.m. at the Kaysville 13th Ward Chapel, 875 E. 200 N. Kaysville, Utah.  Friends may visit with family Sunday, August 13, 2017 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Kaysville Mortuary, 400 N.
