Marie LaRieta Baum Jex
1944 ~ 2021
Marie LaRieta Baum Jex passed away March 19, 2021, in her home surrounded by her family. She fought cancer with courage and dignity. Marie was born May 15, 1944 in Bingham Canyon, Utah to Elmo and Elva Peterson Baum. Marie graduated from Murray High School where she was a member of the pep club and sang in the A cappella choir.
She completed cosmetology school after high school. She married Donald Hendrickson Jex in Elko, Nevada on November 19, 1966. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. Marie worked as a cosmetologist for many years. She worked in accounting for several companies and later started her own successful business.
Marie was a valiant member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many organizations. Marie had unwavering faith in Jesus Christ and Heavenly Father. Her life demonstrated her devotion to them.
Marie loved to read and if she wasn’t busy doing or serving, she was reading. Marie truly had a green thumb and loved working outside in her flower gardens.
The thing she treasured the most was her family. She spent her life devoted to caring for her husband, children, and grandchildren. She showed her love by serving those she cared about. Even during those challenging months of chemo, she attended her grandchildren’s events, games, and performances. She is an example of service, strength, and love to all who knew her.
Although we are heartbroken that she is not here with us, we are grateful she is no longer suffering and has been reunited with her loved ones who have gone before. Until we meet again, we will follow the counsel she gave one of her granddaughters, “I kept fighting, so should you”.
Marie is survived by her husband Don and their children, Michael Jex, Nicole (Jeff) Mills, and Chad (Kristie) Jex. Her grandchildren, Kaitlyn Mills, Jordan Jex, Krista (Mark) Fernelius, Hannah Jex, Kara Mills, Isabelle Jex, Carson Mills, Charlotte Jex, Ava Jex, Ashley (Josh) Wayman, and Clint Shepard . She is preceded in death by her parents, Elmo and Elva Baum, sister Laraine Richardson, brother Delmo Baum, parents in law Doral and Betty Jex and sister in law Donna Baum.
A special thank you to her granddaughter, Kaitlyn, for using her medical training and knowledge, along with her gifts of compassion and love to care for Mom/Grandma during her last days.
