Marietta C. Brown

Beautiful, talented, strong, funny and spunky Marietta Clement Brown passed away Sunday, February 12, 2017 at Legacy House of Ogden at the age of 91, her spirit thrilled to be reunited with her sweetheart, Julian, daughter, Danise, sister Floy, brother  Deward, and parents Oris Hendrickson and Albert Clement, along with her sweet step-father Ennis and many other loved ones.

Marietta, named after her two grandmothers, Mary and Ettie, was born October 23, 1925 in Fairview, UT, where she and her siblings - Lloyd, Deward, Floy and Gerald - lived for several years before moving to Draper, UT where her father was a farmer. Until her dying day, she lamented that her dates had to pick her up at the barn where her family lived in one side and the animals on the other.  The Great Depression forced them to move to Richland, Washington where she met and married Dan Grantham and soon welcomed their daughter, Connee to their family. A second daughter, Danise, was born after they moved back to Utah two years later.

Dan died young, leaving her to raise her two girls until she met and married Charles Armstrong and moved to Cheyenne, Wyoming to help him raise his four daughters. When Charlie passed away, she married Ben Farr, moving to his home in Harrisville. Her high school sweetheart, Julian Brown, became her fourth wonderful husband and they settled in St. George, UT until Julian passed away in 2013. Her daughter, Connee, and the good people at Legacy House of Ogden cared for her until her death.

Marietta was an immensely talented and creative woman. Everything she touched came alive with personality and beauty, from the dozens of dresses, Barbie clothes, coats, swim suits, and wedding dresses that she so professionally sewed, to the lush flower gardens she planted and tended. She opened her own craft store where she taught every possible craft, spending countless hours making each craft for herself first. Before long, she began tole painting and many homes still display her beautiful artwork. Her homes were beautifully and tastefully decorated in the most unique, imaginative ways. The gourmet meals she cooked were not only delectable, but beautiful to look at.

Serving others brought her joy. She and Ben went on a mission to Arizona and she loved her missionaries. She was a Pink Lady at the hospital, taught art classes at fundraisers and nursing homes, decorated for church dances and special meetings, and held many church callings.

Throughout her life, her family brought her the most happiness, especially the little children who always giggled at her crazy antics and funny comments. She was hilarious and made everyone laugh, no matter the occasion. Her daughter, Connee and husband Mike, six grandchildren, many step-grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, brothers Lloyd (Billie) and Gerald (Esther) all loved her.
