MariLou passed away peacefully after a brief hospitalization for complications of osteoarthritis. MariLou was born and raised in Preston, Idaho. She graduated from Weber State University in 1955 with an Associate degree in Nursing. Her first job was at McKay-Dee Hospital where she met the love of her life, Edward Steffen. They were married on September 22, 1956.
While raising three children, MariLou completed Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Nursing from the University of Utah and a Doctorate of Education from BYU. MariLou touched the lives of many people throughout her long career. She provided patient care and administrative duties for both Ogden hospitals and Weber and Salt Lake County Public Health Departments. She taught Nursing for the University of Utah and BYU and was Dean of Nursing for Westminster University in Salt Lake City and the Royal Victorian College of Nursing in Melbourne Australia. She closed out her career with Weber County’s Early Intervention Program, which she considered her most favorite job. MariLou loved to travel. She and Ed visited all 50 states, 30 countries, and all seven world continents.
MariLou is survived by her husband, Edward; son, Larry (Debbie); daughters, Kerri (Carroll) Wyble and Laura (Randy) Anderson; 8 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and brother, Paul Fifield (Lois). She was preceded in death by her parents, Ray Fifield and Audrey Brower; and brothers, Noel and Larry Fifield.
A celebration of her life will be held Sunday, November 12, 2023 from 3 to 4 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Sunday from 2 to 3 p.m. at the mortuary.
