Marilyn Clare Cole Brough
1931-2015
Marilyn Clare Cole Brough passed away quickly and quietly on the morning of December 11, 2015 from complications involving diabetes. She has now rejoined her eternal companion, Warren Dale Brough, who paved the path for her nearly seventeen years ago and was surely waiting with open arms to welcome her to her heavenly home.
Marilyn was born in Mineola, New York on April 7, 1931, to Richard John Cole and Mary Ann Sircable. Marilyn spent her youth on Long Island, New York, with her parents and two younger sisters where she enjoyed music, theatre and the city life. As a young woman she moved to Arizona with her parents where she met the love of her life, Warren Brough, a strapping cowboy from Wyoming. They fell in love and were married June 30, 1952 in Phoenix, Arizona. Their marriage was solemnized and became an eternal union on June 30, 1959 in the Salt Lake Temple.
Marilyn was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Family was paramount in her life. She always expressed her love to her family in letters, emails, texts, and in person. We all knew how much she loved us. She not only loved her living family, but she had a keen desire to bridge the generations and make sure her family knew about her ancestors. She worked diligently with Warren, and then with her children, on her family history and genealogy.
She cherished literature, music and theatre, and shared those passions with her children, taking them to concerts and Shakespeare plays. She loved to travel and experience the beauty of God's creations. She also loved to write.
Marilyn joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1958, and her testimony of the Savior and His restored gospel was the solid foundation upon which she lived her life. She served her Savior every day by serving all those around her. She served faithfully in many callings in the Church. She had a God-given talent of compassion and understanding, and she gave of herself as she listened, counseled and consoled those who confided in her and trusted her wisdom.
She is survived by two sons, Dale Richard (LouAnn) Brough and Thomas James (Kelley) Brough, and three daughters, Bonnie Marie (Darryl) Lee; Kathleen Mary Phelps; and Laura Lynn (Joseph) Noorda, and a loving former daughter-in-law, Susanne Brough. She is survived by 23 grandchildren and 37 great grandchildren and her two loving sisters, Bonny Stauffer and Betty (Kenneth) Sumpter.
