Marilyn Louise Chatlin passed away from dementia, peacefully surrounded by her children on Saturday, March 4, 2023. She exhibited her feisty personality to the very end.
She is survived by her children, Kim Fry (Dev), Dana Chatlin, Stacy Rogers (Lance) and Shae Chatlin; grandchildren, Kipp Rogers (Melissa); Dane Rogers and Mira Chatlin; great grandchildren, Liam, Nash and Vera Rogers; and siblings, Kim Loveless, Shirlee Hutch and Larry Loveless. Preceding Marilyn in death was her loving husband, Charles R. Chatlin and her first grandchild, Logan Emily Rogers.
Those closest to Marilyn knew she was a person with many layers and was not one to show vulnerabilities. She loved caring for people and was the first person to offer help. She enjoyed gifting her neighbors with meals and treats just for fun.
Marilyn was an excellent cook and could make a gourmet meal from scratch. Besides a knack for cooking, she had an eye for decorating and design. Her home was beautifully appointed and welcoming. She found joy in hunting for the perfect item to fit a space.
Her creativity extended to gardening where she and her husband, Charlie, built an oasis full of flowers and interesting elements that made passer byers stop and admire the beauty. Her yard was welcoming to everyone, especially hummingbirds, which she enjoyed feeding.
Marilyn was a doting grandma. She happily served as the resident babysitter until each child started school. She loved engaging her grandkids in crafts, baking, walks and other fun activities.
She enjoyed spending winters in Hawaii with Charlie. While there, they made friends from all over the country. Her sense of style was on full display by wearing a different swimsuit and cover up every day.
Marilyn’s world was forever changed when Charlie passed away in November 2018. She was consumed by grief. With the help of her children, especially Kim & Dev Fry, she built a new life for herself in St. George, Utah. Despite the onset of dementia, she learned to laugh again and her spunkiness reemerged.
During Marilyn’s later years she developed a love for tacos which tuned into a quest to find the best. After trying every type of taco from gourmet to street, Del Taco remained her favorite. She also became a fan of glazed donuts. Her commitment to drinking only diet coke remained unchanged.
Immense gratitude is extended Sun Tree Home Health & Hospice and all those who shared their special gifts and friendship with Marilyn and family.
