Marilyn Child

Marilyn Gambles Child “Muth”

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, wife, grandma, and friend, Marilyn, who returned to her Heavenly Father on November 11, 2017 at the age of 79. She passed away from complications associated with Alzheimer’s disease.

Marilyn was born on August 2, 1938, in Pocatello, Idaho to George Roscoe and Thelma Brim Gambles.  She was the youngest of eight children.  She enjoyed an idyllic childhood growing up on a farm in Swan Lake, Idaho. At 15, her beloved mother passed away.

Marilyn graduated from Marsh Valley High School in 1956 and shortly thereafter moved to the Salt Lake City, Utah area. She was married to Richard Lyman DeMille in 1958 and two boys were born to her, Richard and Mark.

On March 1, 1969, Marilyn married the love of her life, Lawrence R. Child. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple.  Three more children were subsequently born to her: Kim, Teresa, and Karen. Together they raised their five children in Layton, Utah.

Marilyn cherished her close, frequent association with her siblings and their children.  She adored and loved her grandchildren. Each moment she spent with them brought her tremendous joy and satisfaction.

Marilyn was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served faithfully in many callings over her lifetime including Primary president, Relief Society president, and Sunday school organist.

She loved being a full-time homemaker and raising her children. In 1987, she began working for the Lakeside Review, a subsidiary of the Ogden Standard-Examiner. She continued working there until she retired in 2001.

Marilyn was a skilled seamstress and excellent cook.  She was a die-hard BYU fan and a devoted Utah Jazz fan. She relished the time she spent ballroom dancing with her sweetheart, Ross.

She is survived by her husband Lawrence “Ross” Child, her children Richard, Mark (Cindy) Child, Kim (Tricia) Child, Teresa (Eric) Johnsen, Karen (Shane) Robinson, sixteen grandchildren, and two great grandchildren, her siblings Barbara Luke, Lois Hess, Harry Gambles, Milton Gambles and Kay Young. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Paul, Phil, and Theron Gambles and her stepmother Ruby Gambles.

Funeral services will be held Friday, November 17, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary 1867 No. Fairfield Road.
