OGDEN a€" Marilyn (Merve/Mernie) Hock Clarke, 74, died Saturday, August 7, 2010 at Mt. Ogden Nursing and Rehab Center.

She was born September 24, 1935 in Uintah, Utah, a daughter of Stephen John and Mary Anderson Hock. She grew up in Wyoming and Utah. She attended grade school in Wamsutter, Wyoming and graduated from Ogden High School in 1953 where she had been a member of the Pep Club.

Marilyn married Richard C. Clarke on March 5, 1960. Their daughter Paula was born September 28, 1970. Her greatest joys in life were being a mother to Paula and a grandmother to Samantha. She had a profound effect on many children''s lives.

She worked at St. Benedict''s Hospital and as a dental assistant for her lifelong friend, Elwood K. McFarland. She was also a homemaker and awesome babysitter.

Marilyn''s hobbies included knitting, taking in stray cats, making baby blankets for newborns and babysitting nieces, nephews and neighborhood children.

The family expresses their appreciation to Mt. Ogden Nursing and Rehab Center, Applegate Hospice, especially Lea and Deanna, Ogden Regional Medical Center third wing nursing staff, and Dr.''s Stephen J. Bruce and John Hemmerseier.

Surviving are her husband Richard, daughter Paula (Jason) Vaughn and granddaughter Samantha Mary Vaughn.

Also surviving are her sisters, Barbara Jo (Doyle) Sexton, Mary Carlene Kipp, special nieces and nephew, Joy Lynn Bignall, MaryJo Thompson, Wade A. Thompson, and numerous other nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother Clark Andrew Hock.

Graveside services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Lindquist''s Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Road.

Family will meet with friends at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd., on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Marilyn''s name to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, 5001 Angel Canyon Road, Kanab, Utah 84741-5000.
