Marilyn Penrod Downs

On Tuesday, October 27, 2015, Marilyn Penrod Downs passed away at Heritage Park Care Center following a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born May 12, 1930 in Liberty, Weber County, Utah to Leo R. and Gladys Stutznegger Penrod.

Attending Ogden City Schools, she graduated from Ogden High School in 1948. On May 24, 1950, Marilyn married her high school sweetheart, Gerald Walter Downs in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple.

Active in all of the LDS Church organizations, she served in the Mound Fort Ward, Ogden Twenty-ninth, Pleasant View First and Fourth Wards, and Roy Thirty-first ward.

Working in a secretarial position, Marilyn was involved in several departments at Wahlquist Junior High School for ten years. Upon retirement her greatest enjoyment was spending time with her grandchildren and serving at the Ogden Family History Center. She was on the staff there for more than 25 years.

She was an active member of Camp Silver Sage of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers.

Marilyn is survived by a daughter, Karen, of Roy; three sons, Ronald (Marie), of Clinton; Kenneth (Kathy), of Kaysville; Gary, of West Haven; 16 of the most beautiful and talented grandchildren in the world; 37 great-grandchildren; a sister, Pat (Glen) McEntire, of Clinton; five brothers, Richard (Donna), of Hooper; Clarence, of North Ogden; Norman (JoAnn), of Pleasant View; Donald (Linda), of Salt Lake City; and Dennis (Devra), of Roy.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry, in 1992, and by her sister-in-law, Jeanne Tait.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, November 3, 2015 at Lindquist’s Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South. The family will meet with friends Monday, November 2nd from 6 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary.

Interment, Liberty Cemetery.
