Marilyn Bushnell Fryer
Clearfield, Utah - Marilyn Bushnell Fryer Timothy, 78, passed away Tuesday, August 8, 2017, after a wonderful life but recent years of rapidly declining health. Marilyn was born November 21, 1938, in Ogden, Utah, to Clarence (Charlie) and Delma Nelson Bushnell. She grew up in Clearfield, Utah, the big sister to Nolan, Kathy and Jane.
She lived in Clearfield all her life, with the exception of some important years at Utah State University where she was involved in student government, studied to become a teacher and most importantly met Thomas Garn Fryer. They were sealed in the Logan LDS Temple on July 21, 1960, and were a great team.
Marilyn and Garn are the parents of three children: Lynnette, Brian and Douglas. She was a caring and talented wife, mother, sister, neighbor, teacher and friend. She has remained in contact with many friends from her childhood in Clearfield and from Davis High School throughout her life. She always had a story to tell and many gifts to share. She was an excellent cook and taught her children to love preparing and sharing good food. Marilyn was a talented seamstress who created everything from formal gowns to dress-up costumes for family and friends.
She was passionate about the importance of education, and returned to college in 1978 to finish her bachelor's degree at USU, even though it required commuting to Logan for several quarters. She worked in the counseling office at Clearfield High School for many years and enjoyed friendships with teachers, staff and students there.
Marilyn loved to travel and to share memories of the places she visited. She appreciated music, theater and art, and especially liked sharing those experiences with her family and friends.
Following Garn's death in 2003, Marilyn ran for and was elected to two terms on the Clearfield City Council and traveled with friends. She enjoyed her service on the city council and on the Davis Fire Board. Later, she met LaMar Timothy, and they were married in May 2010. They enjoyed many of their later years traveling and spoiling grandchildren as much as their health allowed.
Marilyn is preceded in death by her sweetheart, Garn. She is survived by her husband, LaMar; her children and grandchildren: Lynnette (Scott) Harris and children Anna Jane, Ian and Michael of Millville, Utah; Brian (Heather) Fryer and children Olivia and Emma of West Jordan, Utah; Douglas (Chloe) Fryer and children Ethan and Laura Jane of Kamas, Utah; siblings: Nolan (Nancy) Bushnell of Los Angeles, California; Kathy (Marlin) Jensen of Huntsville, Utah; Jane (Al) Hartman of Ogden, Utah; step-children: Chris, Diane, Brett, Mark, Leslie, Alison, John and Laura; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
The family thanks the staff at Crestwood Care Center in Ogden who cared for Marilyn for the past month and to Brett Timothy who provided care for LaMar and Marilyn at home for the past several months.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, August 14, 2017, at 11 a.m. at the Clearfield 7th Ward, 350 Vine St. Friends may visit with family Sunday, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist's Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Rd. and Monday 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.
