Marilyn S. Harris

April 16, 1952 ~ June 13, 2016

Our beloved Marilyn Salmond Harris, loving mother, grand-mother, wife, and friend passed away on June 13, 2016 in Dallas, Texas. Marilyn was born in Soda Springs, Idaho, to Thora and Robert Salmond on April 16, 1952. She was raised in Utah, along with her six siblings, living in Kaysville, Plain City, and Providence, and graduating from Weber High School in Ogden.

Marilyn married Dean Harris in 1972. They welcomed sons Curtis Dean in 1973, and Gregory Alma in 1976, brought a daughter, Natalie (Wolfe) into their family in 1978, and welcomed grandson Matthew Dean in 1988.

Marilyn began her career in the financial services industry with New York Life in 1985, then joined Connecticut Mutual Insurance, where she very quickly advanced to General Agent and continued that role once Connecticut Mutual merged with MassMutual. She was proud to work alongside her son Curtis for many years both at that office and at their independent firm, EVOS Financial, which they founded in 2008. In her career, Marilyn achieved both company and industry national recognition for exceptional leadership, including selection as 1 of only 50 women nationally to join Leadership America, and was named numerous times by Texas Monthly as one their Five Star Top Wealth Manager award recipients. She also created the first Women's Advisory Board devoted to financial literacy for women and girls. Marilyn was known throughout the industry for being thoughtful, kind, ethical, and encouraging, with her clients, as well as the numerous agents and advisors whom she trained and mentored over the years.

Marilyn was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon). During her years of service, she was called to such roles as Sunday School Teacher and Seminary Teacher, and worked in the Young Women's programs. She was a member of the LDS Plano Ninth Ward.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, her son Gregory, and her brother Richard. She is survived by husband Dean, son Curtis and his wife Rebecca, daughter Natalie and her husband Brian, grandson Matthew, siblings Steven and wife Janeel, Michael and wife Louise, Mark and wife Alyce, Kathryn (Rocha) and husband Rudolpho, and John and wife Shayleen.

Funeral services in her honor will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 17, 2016, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 6545 W Plano Pkwy, Plano, TX 75093.
