Marilyn Junk

March 18, 1939 ~ January 10, 2015

Grandma was born March 18, 1939, the youngest and only daughter of Frank and Gladys Edgar. She learned the art of cooking and cleaning from her mom and the love of sports from her dad.  She lived in SLC, Seattle (where her brother still lives), California, and Ogden.

Marilyn played the piano beautifully and was an “A” student in school, however she was also known to sneak out with her friends and miss curfew.

She graduated from Ogden High in 1957 and enjoyed helping every 5 to 10 years on the reunion committee.  After graduating from high school, she attended the U of U and lived with her Aunt Lillian.

Marilyn married and later divorced Sam Junk.  They have 3 children, Mike the favorite, Jill the middle child, and Julie the bossy one.  Marilyn was a great mom, making sure dinner was always on the table, clothes were clean, and homework was finished.  She taught her children to love sports and the joy of reading.  She juggled motherhood and college, graduating from Weber State in Business Education and then becoming a teacher at Clearfield High in 1974 for 20 years. During her years at Clearfield she was a junior and senior class advisor, and the girl’s tennis coach. She then worked in the Davis School District offices until her retirement in 2003.

As a family, we took our summer vacations to her brother Bryce’s house in California so we could swim in his pool and go to Disneyland, definitely an “E” ticket.

She enjoyed watching all sports and played tennis.  She loved attending all WSU football games (yelling “intercept” on all defensive plays) and men’s basketball games with Jill.  Her favorite restaurant was Utah Noodle; she loved McDonald’s fries and ice cream.

She never quit working, helping Mike with law work and Julie at her tennis club in the snack bar, where she was lovingly referred to as “the Snack Bar Nazi”.

She enjoyed having her family over, especially on holidays.  Thanksgiving was always a big event hosting her brother Gordon’s family, her mom, dad, aunt, uncle and cousins. Our most memorable year was when the turkey caught on fire.  She spent hours making personal Christmas stockings and cross-stitches for each family member and her Christmas parties were a big deal; she always spoiled her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She enjoyed traveling to California, Europe and South Africa, taking cruises, and going to Bear Lake in the summer, where you could see her flying across the water on a wave runner.

She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many capacities such as the Primary, Relief Society, activities chair and her favorite calling, Young Women’s President.  She considered all the Young Women “her girls.”

Marilyn leaves behind her son, Mike (Kathy); daughters, Jill Smith and Julie Ferreira (Brad), and ex son-in-law, Tim Smith (Holly); as well as grandchildren, Jessica (Jordan) Wilson, Christian (Sara), Andre,  Jasmine, Mitko, Carson, Ali (Jesse) Hymas, Dani (Richard) Ballantyne, Franki and Sicely Ferreira; four great-grandchildren with one on the way;  also her brother, Harold; a sister-in-law, LaRene; nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and two cats Rudy and Daisy.

Mom we will miss singing J-I-N-G-L-E Bells at Christmas, stories about your cats, your English Toffee, and all of your dieting advice.

Thanks to all of our family and friends for the prayers, cards, and helping hands, Sharon and Virgina, we so appreciated all the care you gave our mom.

We are grateful to Dr. Burtenshaw and his early diagnoses of our mom with her cancer, giving us more time with her.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at 11 a.m. at the Burch Creek 2 ^nd Ward, 5161 South 1300 East, Ogden.  Friends may visit with family on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.  Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
