Marilyn Mortensen Konopasek

August 21, 1936 – July 28, 2017

Marilyn Mortensen Konopasek passed peacefully away July 28, 2017, with her children by her side. She is preceded in death by her older sister Gwendolyn Shores and her parents Loyd Archbald Mortensen and Wanda Le Marshall.

She is survived by her son, Scott O. Konopasek (Julia), daughters Cheryl Konopasek, Melinda Willis (Brett), and Kellee Wright (Gil). She leaves behind 13 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.

Marilyn was born August 21, 1936, in Price, Utah. She married Sergeant Floyd O. Konopasek, USAF, in Wellington, Utah on November 21, 1954 and later divorced.

Marilyn settled and raised her children in Sunset, Utah having previously lived in Delaware, California, Texas and England.

She graduated from Weber State University in 1972 with an Associate's degree in Radiology technology while raising four young children on her own.

She worked for many years for the Tanner Clinic in Layton and FHP in Salt Lake, Ogden and Layton.  She developed deep friendships with her co-workers and loved the clients that she served.

Her entire life was focused on family and she made many sacrifices for her children.  Although life wasn’t always easy, she met each challenge head on and never backed down. She was very independent and was known for doing things her own way.

Her grandchildren gave her so much love and joy, and she doted on every one of them. They always knew how much Gramma K loved them and enjoyed spoiling them.

She was an active member of the LDS church and served a mission to the Family History Center in Salt Lake City from 2003-2005 where she developed a great love of genealogy and family history.

She loved those she can came in contact with, and they loved her back.  In the Rolling Hills Branch, she was known for her freely offered hugs and love to fellow members.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at 11:00 at the LDS Chapel located at 590 West 2000 North in Layton. Friends may visit with family Tuesday 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Rd. and Wednesday 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church

She will be sorely missed, but her love and example lives on in the lives of her family and all who knew her.
