Marilyn Schaap Love, 78, our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister passed away peacefully on January 16, 2021 after a brief illness with cancer.
Born May 20, 1942 in Los Angeles, California to Cathrinus Nicolaas Schaap and Maria Christina Beijer Schaap, Marilyn was raised in Los Angeles with her two older brothers, Robert Nicolaas Schapp and Kenneth Rene Schapp (deceased). Her brothers were her heroes throughout her life. Marilyn is survived by her six children and their spouses, Brent (Wendy), Mark, Mathew (Julie), Christine Hyatt, Andrew (Avery), Mary Yoon (Charlie), 15 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Val Love.
Marilyn was a devoted disciple of Christ and an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She especially loved visiting the Temple with her ward family and doing genealogy work, where she indexed hundreds of thousands of records. Her belief in an eternal family was the driving force of her life.
Marilyn will always be remembered by her friends and family for her quick wit and zest for adventure. She primarily raised her children as a single mother. She had to educate herself and work many jobs to support her children. Some of our fondest memories are of her courage to face the unexpected and lift up her brood to show them what was possible. She fed our confidence by showing us the way. Future generations will prosper because of her grit and desire to overcome and provide for her family. Late in life she met and married Val Love in the Jordon River Temple for time and eternity. She was able to build a life with him and they retired to Clearfield, Utah in 2010. Val passed away in 2011.
We will miss her every day, but we find great joy in knowing that she is reunited with her love, Val, her parents and her brother. Thank you mom for your incredible devotion as a mother and an example of Christ's love.
