Marilyn Hildred Evans Ohlson

Marilyn Hildred Evans Ohlson, 85, peacefully passed away on July 12, 2021, surrounded by family and loved ones.

Marilyn was born June 12, 1936, in Mapleton, Utah, to David Rolla Evans and Hildred Johanna Bergeman Evans.

She attended Weber High School in Ogden, Utah. Shortly after graduating, she met the love of her life, Keith Lester Ohlson. It so happened that Keith, a year older than Marilyn, was a basketball player for Ogden High (Weber’s main rival) and Marilyn was a cheerleader for Weber High. Despite the rivalry, the two fell in love. They were married April 15, 1955 for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple. Keith and Marilyn had three children and were together as husband and wife for 66 wonderful years.

Together with Keith, Marilyn was co-founder, bookkeeper, and general office manager of Adcentives West promotional products, which started operations in the basement of their family home in Bountiful, Utah, in 1979. She continued in these functions for 21 years, helping grow the business to great success until retiring in 2000.

Marilyn, as her husband lovingly puts it, “was always up for fun and adventure,” and spent the majority of her life in joyfully perpetual motion. When she wasn’t working overtime hours at the family business, she was impeccably cleaning her home from top to bottom, tending to her hard-headed family’s needs, cheering on The Utah Jazz, traveling the American West, perpetually collecting quirky and delicate sculptures, and throwing herself head-first into a myriad of outdoor activities.

Marilyn was a passionate and accomplished gardener, golfer, skier, hiker, horseback rider, and bicyclist. At the age of 50, she tenaciously cycled from Garden City, Utah to Jackson Hole, Wyoming in only three days. The images of joy, exhilaration, and accomplishment can be seen in countless photos of her engaging in these activities.

Marilyn was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and held many callings, most of them in the Bountiful 8th Ward Central Stake. She was a mentor, coach, and teacher to many young women, and her faith was a pillar in her life.

Until her final breath, Marilyn’s heart never wavered in its limitless love and dedication towards her family, who she cherished above all else. Nothing brought Marilyn more joy than spending time with her husband, sons, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Marilyn’s modest courage was an example to everyone throughout her life. This was exemplified as she battled her health problems for the last twenty years with grace and dignity.

Marilyn is survived by her husband Keith Ohlson; son Douglas (Barbara) Ohlson; son Dale (Cathy) Ohlson; son David (Amy) Ohlson; sister Dana Thorstensen; brother Duane (Jackie) Evans; brother Gary (Becky) Evans, sister-in-law Karen Huber; sister-in-law Adele (Ronald) Clay; grand children Erik Ohlson; Anna (Brent) Winslow; David Ohlson; Cadie (David) Westover; Craig (Chay) Ohlson; Darcie (Brayden) Wiedeman; Cooper Ohlson; Kylie Ohlson; Cambria Ohlson; and 14 great grandchildren.

Marilyn is preceded in death by her parents; sister Connie; father and mother-in-law Lester and Ethel Ohlson; brother-in-law Lowell Thorstensen; brother-in-law Doyle Huber.

The Ohlson family offers our everlasting gratitude to the exceptional caretakers who helped tend to the needs of Marilyn during the last eight years. These benevolent angels included, but are not limited to: Her loving husband Keith, Kathy Misiora, Betty Jo Staples, Deena Christensen, Symbii Home Health & Hospice, Canyon Home Care & Hospice, and our friends, neighbors, & leaders of Coalville, Utah.

Funeral services will be held Monday, July 19, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary located at 1867 N Fairfield Rd, Layton, Utah.  Friends may visit with family Sunday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary.
