With heavy hearts we announce the passing of our sweet mom, Marilyn Sharkey, who passed away on the morning of April 15, 2024, at the age of 81.
She was born December 12, 1942, in Paul, Idaho, to Mervin Smith and Ruth (Decker) Smith. The family later moved to Ogden, Utah, where she met her husband, George Sharkey. They were happily married for 33 years before his passing. She never dated or remarried as she said she was lucky the first time and would never be that lucky a second time.
Mom worked very hard and was dedicated to everything she did. She was employed at Ogden Care Center North for over 30 years until she retired. She had the best work ethic and was only late or missed work very few times. She won several awards during her time there.
Mom had a big heart and donated monthly to various organizations, including Native American Indian charities. She always had a special place in her heart for the Native American people. She loved to read and was always in the middle of a book. She had a room in her home full of nothing but books. She was a huge Utah Jazz fan in the days of Stockton and Malone and would schedule her life around the games. She enjoyed doing yardwork and always kept a nice yard and home. She loved her Coke, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups and Ben & Jerry’s Chunky Monkey ice cream.
Marilyn is survived by her two daughters, Tammy May, North Ogden; Darlene (Jade) Sewell, Farr West; grandsons, Bradley Vorwaller, North Ogden; Brody and Maguire Sewell, Farr West; granddaughter Stacie Talbot, Willard; great-grandchildren, Trevan and Stratton Winters and Hadlee Talbot, Willard; Shelly Endow and Hailey Vorwaller, Layton; and youngest brother, Robert Smith, Ogden. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Sharkey; her son, Farron Sharkey; her grandson, Michael Stewart; her parents; and her three older brothers, Elmer, DeWayne and Dwight Sandlian.
As difficult as this is for those of us who love and will miss her so much, it brings us comfort knowing that she is no longer struggling with the effects of dementia.
We would like to thank the staff at Quail Meadow Assisted Living and Cascade Springs/AFI Advanced Care Hospice for the loving care they gave our mom. We would also like to thank Kara Latham at Generations Case Management for all of her help and support.
Mom’s wishes were that no services be held. Interment, Lindquist’s Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Rd.
Service will be held at a future date
