Marilyn Thompson Tribe, 92, passed away peacefully at her home in Ogden, Utah on September 5, 2024, surrounded by family. She was born on January 10, 1932, to Gordon Francis and Margaret McFarland Thompson in Plain City, Utah. She knew everyone in her hometown and cherished the childhood memory of riding into the town square on her pony as an attendant to the Potato Day Queen. A graduate of Weber High School, Weber College, and Brigham Young University, she loved learning and believed that education opened up new worlds. On Friday, August 13, 1954, she married Allan Lee Tribe in the Salt Lake temple. After her wedding, she lived in Philadelphia, PA and San Antonio, TX, before moving to Ogden, UT where she lived for the remainder of her life. She taught elementary school in Pennsylvania and Utah.
A lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she loved her Savior and knew that because of Him she would be with her loved ones again. Marilyn was grateful for her membership in the church and for her callings, which included Relief Society President and a mission teaching English with her husband in Ogden, UT. An avid BYU fan, she enjoyed watching sports, particularly basketball and football. For many years, she participated in a women’s book club with friends and neighbors. She was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who valued spending time with her family, doting on her grandkids and great-grandkids, and hosting family reunions and parties. Marilyn took after her mother: she wasn’t one to complain, but she always spoke her mind. Her sharp wit and sense of humor, generosity, kindness, humility, and commitment to doing what is right will never be forgotten. While reminiscing with her family at her seventieth wedding anniversary celebration earlier this year, she said that this was the culmination of a wonderful life.
She is survived by her husband, Lee; her younger brother, Darrell; her five children, Michael (Margaret), Paul (Jan), Shelly Ripplinger (Kent), Susan Johnson (Steven), and Brian; sixteen grandchildren; and sixteen great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank Dr. Seth Lewis and Enhabit Hospice for their compassionate care.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 13, 2024, at 11 a.m. at the Shadow Ridge Ward, 1401 Country Hills Drive, Ogden, UT. Friends may visit with the family on Friday from 9:30–10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment, Ogden City Cemetery.
