Maris Jill Cheney

Layton - Maris Jill Cheney, our beautiful daughter, sister, aunt, and friend, returned to the loving arms of our Savior on Friday, November 13, 2015.  Maris was born on April 17, 1974 in Ogden, Utah, the daughter of Jan B and Loretta Hill Cheney.

Maris enjoyed nature, spending time outdoors, and traveling.  She loved scrapbooking, crocheting, and card making.  Some of her hobbies included reading, playing cards, and doing a puzzle.  Maris loved dancing, especially ballet. She also enjoyed baking and was known for her cookies and cheesecakes. Maris loved movies, live plays, musicals and the ballet.  She had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh.  Maris had a compassionate heart, and she could always brighten your mood.  Maris loved being an aunt and had a loving relationship with each of her nieces and nephews.  She was very interested in each of their lives.  She loved being a caretaker, and got the nickname Mem for being like a second mom to her sisters.   She loved serving other people and was possibly the kindest person you would ever meet.  She gave so much of her time helping other people.

She was raised with her four sisters in Kaysville, Utah. She went to Kaysville Elementary, Kaysville Jr. High and attended Davis High School and Viewmont High.  She worked at Shopko and Target as a pharmacy technician.  Maris also worked as a nanny for several families. Maris served an LDS mission in the Washington Spokane Mission and the Utah Ogden Mission.  Maris loved serving in the different wards that she attended and held several callings. She loved genealogy and had learned about her pioneer heritage and different ancestors. Maris was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers.

Maris is preceded in death by both sets of grandparents and her nephew, Ethan. She is survived by her parents, Jan and Loretta Cheney, Tara (Derek), Sommer (Mark), Bekah, and Rachel. She also leaves behind her nieces and nephews: Brynlee, Emma, Rayce, Mia, Lily, Hailey, Emily, Devan, Lybbe, Sydne, and Colton.

Funeral services will be held Friday, November 20, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.  Friends may visit family Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary.
