Marjorie Rhodes Alvord Bigelow, 84, died Thursday, April 8, 2010 at McKay-Dee Hospital with loved ones by her side.

She was born November 6, 1925 in Liberty, Utah to Charles and Ruth Peterson Rhodes.

Marjorie married Dr. Rex Martin Alvord on September 27, 1944 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He preceded her in death May 14, 1994. She later married David Lynn Bigelow on September 7, 2002.

She was a lifetime member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She held many positions throughout the years, including teaching Primary and was a past Primary President.

Marjorie was Assistant to the Dean of Research at Stanford University, while her husband attended the Stanford University School of Medicine, in 1944.

She was active in various organizations and clubs for many years. She was a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers, the Coronet Club, Child Culture Club and the Junior League of Ogden. She initiated the Health Career Days at Weber State University, and held many chairmanships as a member of the Weber County Medical Auxiliary. Marjorie was an avid doll collector, who loved showing her collection to local school children and various clubs. She loved nature. Her hobbies included photography, skiing, especially cross-country skiing at her ranch. She loved hiking with her grandchildren, her travels throughout the world with her family, especially her trips to the Hawaiian Islands. One of her greatest loves was reading to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving are one son, Dr. Rex M. Jr. (Elizabeth) Alvord, Gig Harbor, WA; four daughters, Karyl K. Hoeptner (Dr. Wolf Hemsing), Austria; Diana Alvord (Joseph) Marchione, Liberty, UT; Julianne Alvord (David) Salazar, North Ogden; Amy A. (T.H.) Steele, Italy; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Also surviving are three brothers, C. Ronald Rhodes, Powell (Rocky) Gordon Rhodes, and Dan DeVere Rhodes.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Dr. Rex M. Alvord, twin sister Marcia (at birth) and her childhood sister, Carol.

Marjorie was a kind, compassionate and giving woman, who was loved by all those who knew her. She will be dearly missed by all.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to all the wonderful doctors, nurses and caregivers, for providing loving care for Marjorie.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday April 13 at 11:00 a.m. at the Waterfall-Canyon Ward (Forty-First Ward), 3254 Polk Ave.

Friends may call Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd., on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday at the Ward Chapel from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m.

Interment, Liberty Cemetery.
