Marjorie, 84, born in Salt Lake City, Utah was the younger of two girls born to William Lonsdale Cobb and Beatrice May Clapham Cobb. She attended Columbus Elementary School, Irving Jr. High School, and South High School where she graduated in 1946. She worked for Continental Bank after she had completed high school. It was during this time that she met her best friend, and eternal companion, Earl Jones. Earl had heard of this beautiful girl who sang in the choir in the Forest Dale Ward. He sneaked in to hear her sing and was immediately smitten with her. They were sealed November 5, 1947 in the Salt Lake Temple. They had six children, Douglas, Marlene, Debbie, Carol, and Elaine. Their first child, Christine Elaine Jones, died a few days after birth in July, 1948. Earl left this life on June 29, 2012. Earl and Marjorie lived in Salt Lake City, Bountiful, and Centerville.
Marjorie served as an administrative assistant and ordinance worker in the Salt Lake and Bountiful Temples. She labored diligently in numerous callings in the church, but her most fervent and cherished calling was that of a mother, and eternal companion.
Marjorie and Earl dwell together again in a transcendent, pure peace. She loved to dance and sing. She used the power of music as a way to commune with God. She now lives in a place of vibrancy where there are no shadows. She beckoned the call, "It is time to return home". She changed from her body, the covering of her soul, and lives again as a pure spirit residing in the presence of God. The substance of her character consists of a deep inner desire for love, companionship, and a want to work with others to achieve peace and harmony.
To us her hands bend at rest, her face reflects prayerful repose; her breaths upwell nevermore. Today we pull together beyond mourning and our impatient selves. We gather to pray and wonder what is on the other side. Marjorie gleefully declares she laid down her weary, aging body, but did not die! She ended one journey and began yet another.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her husband, Earl George Jones, and their daughter, Christine Elaine Jones; as well as her parents. She is survived by her five children: Douglas (Linda) West Jordan; Marlene Moyes (Michael) Syracuse; Deborah Knecht (Steven) Kaysville; Carol Jones Rindlisbacher, Malad, Idaho; and Elaine Sargent (Austin) Bountiful. She deeply loved and cherished her 26 grandchildren and 68 great- grandchildren.
