Marjorie MacKay Mayfield, 96, daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend returned home to her Heavenly Father on Friday, December 14, 2012. She left this earth peacefully, surrounded by loved ones to join her eternal companion. Marjorie was born July 31, 1916 in Salt Lake City, Utah, the daughter of George W. and Florence Fox MacKay. She was raised in Salt Lake and graduated from East High School. She married Brigham Arthur Mayfield on June 12, 1940 in Salt Lake City. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake temple March 14, 1958. They spent most of their married life in Clearfield, Utah. Marjorie was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had a strong testimony of its teachings and values. She served in many callings for her church, including service with the Young Women and Relief Society President. She also supported her community in many ways. Marjorie was a member of the Literary Club of Clearfield. She served as a cook for Davis County Schools for many years. One of her proudest accomplishments was being a charter member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers Wild Rose Camp. She always took great pride in her pioneer heritage. She loved to cook and had a passion for genealogy and family history. Nothing made her happier than visits from her family. Marjorie leaves behind a legacy of family history, strength and perseverance, and love for her family and the gospel of Jesus Christ. She was truly a valiant daughter of her Father in Heaven who endured to the end. Survived by her four sons, George (Marianne Chambers) Mayfield, North Ogden; Richard (Shay Hannum) Mayfield, Fruit Heights; Gary (Margie Poll) Mayfield, Chattanooga, Tennessee; Brent (Kathi Miles) Mayfield, Phoenix, Arizona; two sisters, Kathryn Jones and Marian Nielson, both of Salt Lake City; 18 grandchildren and 48 2/3 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, B. Arthur Mayfield; her parents; 3 sisters, Ruth May Petersen, Florence Stout, and Joyce DeVore; and a daughter-in-law, Judy (Stewart) Mayfield. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 19th at 11 a.m. at the Clearfield 5th Ward Chapel, 935 South State Street. The family will meet with friends Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 North Fairfield Road and at the church Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Interment, Syracuse City Cemetery.
