Mark John Buchanan
Mark John Buchanan, 63, passed away peacefully at his home on December 14, 2014, after a 3 year battle with ALS. He was born on June 16, 1951 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the son of Thomas and Mary Buchanan. He moved to Utah at age 7 and was raised in Ogden, Utah.
He graduated from Weber High School in 1969 and received a Bachelor of Science in Business Finance from Utah State University in 1974. While attending Utah State, he worked summers as a whitewater rafting guide in Jackson Hole, Wyoming where he met his wife, Kathy King Buchanan. They were married June 8, 1973 in Kaysville, Utah and later sealed in the Salt lake Temple. They moved to South Weber in 1980 and raised their three children.
Mark was hired at Western Zirconium on July 1, 1985 and worked as a mechanic and electrician in the maintenance department for 29 years.
Mark enjoyed his time outdoors and loved golfing, hunting, fishing, 4-wheeler rides, and pack trips with his horses. The highlight of his golfing career was the 2 holes-in-one he accomplished in his last few years.
Mark is survived by his wife Kathy; daughters, Jennifer (Eric) Rawlin of Syracuse, Alyson (Kyle) Shupe of South Weber; son Brad (Brooke) Buchanan of South Weber and 10 grandchildren. Father Tom Buchanan Sr. and mother Mary Buchanan; sister Michelle Buchanan and brother Tom Buchanan Jr.
Mark is preceded in death by his grandson Weston Buchanan, Mother-in-law Doris King, and nephew Mike King.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 19, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the Pioneer Ward Chapel 1401 E. South Weber Drive, South Weber Utah. Friends may visit family Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary 1867 N. Fairfield Road, Layton, Utah and Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Pioneer Ward Chapel. Interment, Uintah Cemetery.
