Mark Elliott Hirst 65 - of Layton Utah, passed away after a short illness on July 15, 2022, at Davis Hospital. He will be remembered as a kind and helpful person. Always lending a hand or tool to help someone.
Mark was born July 23rd, 1956, to Edward and Una Hathaway Hirst in Murray, Utah. He would be the sixth of eight children. He graduated from Davis High School in Kaysville in 1974. He met his best friend and love, Susan Miller, and they married in Bountiful, Utah on May 28th, 1976. They later solemnized their marriage in the Salt Lake Temple. They were married for 46 years and had two sons making Layton their home.
He started his HVAC career at Freeway Heating in Bountiful, Utah. Then after getting his certification, he worked for Zion's Securities in downtown Salt Lake as facilities manager for 30 years. He loved old cars, especially his '67 Pontiac Firebird, and going on road trips to car shows. He loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting, and being there with family. He loved "tinkering" in his garage, fixing or rebuilding things. Kids always knew he could help fix their bikes and fill the tires with air.
He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day-Saints holding many stake and ward positions. But his favorite was camping with the scouts and going to girl's camp. He loved having his twin grandsons, Zach, and Max, spend the weekend and bedtime story reading was a tradition. Family was a priority always.
He is survived by his wife, Sue, children Clair (Emmy) and Michael. Siblings Laraine Downer, Steve Hirst, Rick (Fern) Hirst, sister-in-law Veronica Hirst, Michael (Michelle) Hirst, and Ronald Hirst. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Pam, brother Jon and two brothers-in-law. His dog, Renny, will miss their rides in the jeep.
Our family would like to thank the many doctors and nurses at the Davis Hospital ICU. Their excellent care, concern and kindness was greatly appreciated.
