Our dear Father, Grandfather, and Great grandfather passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, February 23, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on November 6, 1931 in Ogden, Utah to Joseph Franklin Morgan and Essie Elsie Summers. He grew up in Layton, Utah and loved to spend time with his older brother John. They worked and played together. They mowed lawns, milked cows, took care of chickens, and rode horses. He also grew up with many friends that lived around him. When he was 12 years old, he started helping his Dad with farm work, cattle and turkeys. He loved being with him.
Dad went to Layton Elementary School, North Davis Junior High, and graduated from Davis High School where he played sports. He especially loved playing football. While he was at Davis High, he met our beautiful mother, Elaine Pearson. Soon after their graduation, they were married and sealed in the Salt Lake City Temple on June 2, 1950. The next few years of their lives was a whirlwind of working hard and raising their children in the beautiful home that they built in Layton.
Dad worked hard raising cows, horses, crops, hay, and thousands upon thousands of turkeys over the years with his Dad and brothers, John and Golden. Later on, he and Mom built some nice apartments near their home. They loved working together and were a great team taking care of the apartments and their renters. Later in his life he started creating things out of wood. He loved making keepsakes for his family and others. This brought joy great joy to him as he shared this talent.
Dad was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout his life. This was instilled in him by his parents at a very young age. He faithfully served in many church callings. He and Mom served in the Ogden Temple for many years as well as 4 missions together. They served in Nigeria, Micronesia, the Toronto Temple and the Madrid Spain Temple and were able to share their testimonies of the Gospel of Jesus Christ with many throughout the world.
We are so thankful for a loving Father, Grandfather, and Great Grandfather who has taught us through his example to love each other, help each other and to endure righteously and faithfully to the end.
He is preceded in death by his sweetheart Elaine, infant son Matthew, daughter Julia Haugen and his parents, brothers and sisters. He is survived by his children, Janine Edwards (Donald), Todd Morgan (Mary Lynne), Marsha Richins (Ron), Carrie Butler (Dan), Larry Haugen (Susan), and Jane Dunford (Robert). Also, a thriving posterity of 26 grandchildren, 80 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild (with one more on the way).
