Mark William Whitesides
1908 ~ 2011
LAYTON a" Mark W. Whitesides, 102, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 24, 2011 surrounded by his family. He was born to Edward and Mary Whitesides on December 5, 1908 in Layton, Utah. Mark married Marion Maynard on October 24, 1933 in Coalville, Utah. She died April 5, 2000.
Mark was raised and educated in Layton, Utah and graduated from Davis High School. He resided and raised his family in Layton. He worked as a builder, carpenter and was a diesel engineer at the Army Depot, now Hill Air Force Base, repair facility in Clearfield until retirement.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His prime interest was his family, and he played an active part in his children''s lives. His family was the recipient of his building talents, his interest in horses, his masterful model train set up that evolved to be a family and neighborhood treasure.
Mark was an optimist, honest, hard working. He was a good listener and accepted his family and others with unconditional love. He was not judgmental. Mark built his own home in the early 1940''s, with skill and love, from a train car load of lumber he had purchased. His family always had a cow, chickens, horses and other animals in their lives.
Mark was the last of the children of Ed and Mary, ending that family line.
Mark is survived by his four children: Maynard (Lee) of Bountiful; Margaret of Silver Spring, MD; Preston (Carol) of Layton; Lewis (Shirley) of LaPaz, Mexico; and 16 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marion, two grandchildren, Amy Lee Whitesides and John Whitesides, his parents, three sisters and three brothers.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Kaysville City Cemetery, 500 E. Crestwood Road Friends may visit family Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.
