Marlene Moyes

In Memory Of Marlene Jones Moyes

1950 – 2016

Syracuse, Utah - Marlene Jones Moyes, age 65, returned to the loving arms of her Father in Heaven on December 17, 2016.

Marlene was born on December 28, 1950 in Salt Lake City and was the third of six children to join the family of Earl George and Marjorie Elaine Cobb Jones. Marlene’s parents were blessed by the easy going nature of this beautiful, brown eyed baby. At a young age, it was evident that Marlene had a zest for life, adventure and fun. Marlene attended West High for two years before completing her senior year at Bountiful High in 1969. During this time, Marlene met her best friend and eternal companion, James Michael Moyes. They were sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on December 8, 1972.

Early in their marriage, Mike and Marlene built a home in Syracuse, Utah. Marlene would spend the rest of her years in this home, side by side with her sweetheart as they raised six stalwart, hard working boys; often referred to by the community as “The Moyes Boys.” Marlene was a devoted mother and exemplified sacrifice and service as she guided her boys into becoming righteous men.

Marlene was active, driven and industrious. She graduated from cosmetology school in 1970 and used this talent to work from home while raising her children. Over the years, Marlene also enjoyed driving a school bus and loved her work for Davis School District as a part time educator. Marlene had a gift for working with children and her own grandchildren were one of her greatest treasures. Her capacity to love made all who knew her feel like they were her best friend. She traveled often with friends and enjoyed spending time at the family cabin in Bear Lake. One of Marlene’s spiritual gifts was the ability to bring beauty to the world around her. She did so with her beautiful smile, angelic voice, her meticulous flower beds, fun filled parties, handmade crafts and her devotion to her faith.

Marlene enjoyed many callings in the LDS church, but cherished most, the time she spent leading music in the primary. Marlene also loved missionary work. Together, she and Michael served diligently for 23 months as missionaries in the Frankfurt, Germany and Bern, Switzerland Temples. Marlene knew that she was a daughter of God and lived her life as a valiant disciple of Christ.

Marlene was preceded in death by her parents and infant sister Christine Elaine Jones.

She is survived by her husband James Michael and her six children: Jason (Rachel) Moyes, Roy; Scott (Phyllis) Moyes, Syracuse; Troy (Nicole) Moyes, Syracuse; Brent (Stacie) Moyes, Farr West; Eric (Dee Dee) Moyes, Syracuse; Kyle (Rachel) Moyes, South Weber. Marlene is also survived by 23 grandchildren and her siblings Douglas, Debbie, Carol, Elaine and their spouses.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Syracuse Utah LDS Stake Center, 1350 South 1800 West, Syracuse. Friends may visit with family on Monday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 Fairfield Road, Layton and Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.  Interment, Syracuse City Cemetery.
