Marlene Peaslee

MARLENE PEASLEE LAYTON – Marlene Peaslee passed away peacefully August 14, 2013. She was born March 3, 1930, the adopted daughter of John Stevenson and Ethel Richmond Buxton. She was raised at Eastwood Nottingham England and attended Devonshire Drive, graduating from Walker St. School at age 14. On August 11, 1951, at age 21, Marlene immigrated to Utah. Six years later her sister Ella joined her. On August 11, 1965 she became a U.S. citizen. She was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary serving as a Unit and State Officer. Marlene also volunteered over 3000 hours at the V.A. Hospital. She was employed at Layton Norge Village for 16 years. Marlene married Ernest Rueben Peaslee on May 19, 1953. They were the parents of five children; Steven, Virginia, Doran, Kenneth and Scott. Marlene was a lover of Country, Western and Gospel music. She would sooner listen to the stereo then watch T.V. especially the Statler Bros and Tennessee Ernie Ford. Marlene was also a loyal fan of the Utah Jazz. Marlene enjoyed knitting, crocheting and embroidering. She made and donated many items to new mothers, friends, relatives and organizations that used these items for fund raising. She also taught knitting classes. She took care of Ernest for over six years during his long and debilitating illness. Marlene saw many of her dreams she had as a child come true. Her dream was to come to America, marry, raise a family and visit places she had only read about. She traveled extensively in the Western States. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, grand-daughter Christy Peaslee Stitzer, sister, Ella Rea and friend Kathleen Lamb (England). Survived by her children, grand-children, sister, Annette Thorpe (England), friends and travelling companions, Dixie Graham and Joyce Porter. Funeral services will be held Monday August 19, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Rd. Friends may visit family Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment at Lindquist’s Memorial Park at Layton, 1867 No. Fairfield Road. The family wishes to thank Hearts for Hospice and Washington Terrace Nursing and especially Sandy her nurse for the special care given to mom.
