Marsa Lee Newland
OGDEN – In the early morning hours of Wednesday, July 8, 2009, Marsa Lee Newland returned to the arms of her Savior. She was the loving companion of LeRoy (Pete) Newland for 60 years. She was born August 8, 1928 in Moberly, Missouri, the daughter of Robert H. and Lucy Pearl Matthews.
After sending her children off to college, Marsa returned to school and completed her Bachelor’s Degree in Library Science at Weber State College. She graduated in 1979. She became the Librarian at St. Joseph’s High School, a job she loved because of her love for books and reading, and as a student of history of faraway places. She retired in 1993 after 18 years of service. After retiring she volunteered at the Christian Heritage School in their library until the time of her final illness. She was a Christian all of her life.
Marsa was a loving mother and grandmother and her love of family led her into genealogy and family history. She labored for years on the history of her extended family and to complete that which her mother, Lucy Pearl, had started. She created a record that her children and grandchildren can work to equal and strive to emulate.
She leaves behind three children, 11 grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren. She was greatly loved and will be deeply missed.
The family would like to thank the staff of McKay-Dee Hospital for their skill and tender care. The doctors, nurses, respiratory and physical therapists, and assistants who showed consummate expertise, knowledge and concern in all they did while caring for Marsa. Thank You.
