March 20, 1937 to February 8, 2014

Our loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend passed away on February 8, 2014.

Martell was born in Pocatello, ID, on March 20, 1937 to Ivin L. and Pearl Stucki Gee.  He was the second of 4 children.  As a child he lived with his family in Rexburg, ID; Cheyenne, WY; Denver, CO; and Lander, WY.

Martell graduated from Freemont County Vocational High School in 1954 and then attended Ricks College where he met his future wife, LaRue Barrus.  In the spring of 1957, he accepted a call to serve an LDS mission to the Finland Helsinki Mission.  After serving an honorable two and a half year mission, he returned home in November of 1959 and married his fiancée of almost 4 years on Dec 30, 1959.

Martell attended school at BYU Provo, where he received his B.S. degree and Ph.D. in Physics.  He served as Computer Center Director for several organizations including the University of Dayton, Utah State University, and the LDS Church. Martell served as Director of Information Systems for the LDS European Consolidation in Frankfurt, Germany and as the Church’s Information Security Officer. He also worked for the Church in Accra, Ghana, helping to improve computer communications in West Africa.

Upon retiring from his employment with the Church, Martell served a 3-year mission as President of the Russia Yekaterinburg Mission with his wife LaRue.  Following their service in Russia, they served an 18-month mission in the Helsinki Finland Temple.  Martell completed his mission here on earth while still faithfully serving his God.

Martell was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Glendon, his son-in-law Larry Cantwell (Karen) and daughter-in-law Eva L. Gee (Charles).   He is survived by his wife LaRue, brother Laurence (Alice), sister Rosemary (Steve), his children: Charles (Tina), Norman (Louise), Howard (Julianna), Karen (Baxter), KayLyn (Jack), Kristin (Jared), Kimberly (Ryan), 30 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm, Saturday, February 15, 2014 at the North Canyon 3rd Ward Chapel at 2505 South Davis Blvd.  Bountiful, UT.  Friends may visit family Friday, February 14, 2014 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the Lindquist’s Bountiful Mortuary 727 N. 400 E. and Sat. from 12:00 – 1:30 pm at the church prior to services. Interment Lakeview Cemetery, Bountiful, UT.  In lieu of flowers, please send donations to LDS Humanitarian Services.
