Martha Wyland Anderson, 83, returned to her Heavenly Father and to her husband, Wes, on December 15, 2011 after a lifelong battle with asthma. She was born on September 25, 1928 in San Gabriel, California to Carl Walter and Ida Northrop Wyland. She married Wesley Robert Anderson on November 26, 1948 and they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary just before Wesley''s death.

Martha valued family above all else, devoting herself to her five children and excelling in all aspects of homemaking, despite serious health problems her entire adult life. She was especially known for her cooking a€" she baked the best pies in the world.

Mom idolized her older brother, Bill, and sister Nona. Following Nona''s example, Martha loved literature, classical music, and French. She and Wes served from 1992-1993 in the France, Paris Mission. She inspired her children to value education and to love language.

Martha was a devoted member of the LDS Church, having converted in 1972 with her husband and children. They were sealed in the Los Angeles Temple one year later. She is survived by her five children; Cathy (Chuck) Whiting, Layton; Debi, Layton; Scott (Lori), Riverton; Sharon (John) Barton, SLC; Marilyn, Layton; 14 grandchildren: Scott (Stephani), Carl (Melanie), Brant (Brooke), Eric (Jinaya), Trevor (Trisha), Byron (Maranda) Whiting; Paul (Alyse), Brian (Rachel ), Jared (Karlie), Matt, Ben (Hannah) Barton; Wesley, Wendy Anderson, Kaylie (Preston) Hooser; 20 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 22, 2011 at 2 p.m. at Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Rd. Friends and family may call Wednesday from 6 a€" 8 p.m. and Thursday from 12:45 a€" 1:45 p.m.

The family would like to thank Legacy Rehab & IHC Hospice and especially Dr./Bishop Chris Merkley for his years of compassionate service in our parents'' behalf.

Interment, Lindquist''s Memorial Park at Layton, 1867 N. Fairfield Rd.
