She was born May 29, 1926 in Garfield, Utah, the daughter of Joseph Alvin and Francis Diana Hunt Anderson. She was raised in Smithfield and graduated from North Cache High School in Richmond, Utah in 1944.
Martha worked at Defense Depot Ogden for two and half years and later met our Papa (Charles Seal Bishop) on a blind date. Three months later, on November 15, 1947, they were married in the Anderson home by their Stake President Hilly. They spent their honeymoon at the Newhouse Hotel in Salt Lake City, Utah. They were later sealed in the Logan LDS Temple and had their children sealed to them on May 31, 1960. They lived in Grandma Seal’s home in Collinston until Charles got a job at Hill Air Force Base. At that time they lived with his sister in Layton until they found an apartment in Ogden.
They moved to Washington Terrace Housing in August of 1954. Mama went to work at Hill Air Force Base to help support the family. They had five children – three girls, Linda, twins LaWanna and LauRue, and two boys, Charles Randall and Steven Russell Bishop. Both of our parents retired from HAFB in 1981.
Martha was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in the Primary, Sunday School, Temple Preparedness Class, Relief Society Presidency and teacher. She was also active in temple work and genealogy. Mama and Papa served two missions together: Ordinance Workers in the Ogden Temple and 19 months in the Manila Philippines Temple. When they returned from the Philippines they served again in the Ogden Temple.
She was a member of the Federal Women’s Retired Club, and a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers Camp Prickly Pear. Martha was active bowler for many years.
