Martha Christensen

September 25, 1947 – October 20, 2017

I was born to Cloro and Cresencia Vigil in Gallina, New Mexico. I was the oldest daughter of the family, having four siblings: Tony (Jill) Vigil, Clodie (Carol) Vigil, Tio Vigil, Priscilla (Jay) Offret. We were fortunate enough that Mom moved us to Payson Utah when I was 11. This is where my mother met the man who raised us, Dean L. Cloward. I graduated from Payson High School with the dream of being a beautician. I was allowed to follow this dream by receiving a scholarship to attend Robert Strus Beauty School in Salt Lake City from which I graduated. While working at Loni’s I was introuduced to a gentleman that would become my best friend, husband and father of our boys. On June 25, 1972, I married Phil E. Christensen in Elko Nevada and we would celebrate our honeymoon at Strawberry reservoir doing the one thing we both loved, fishing.

We were fortunate enough to raise two boys: Todd (Tricia) and Randy “Ru” (Tamara). The greatest blessings in life came from the faces of 6 beautiful grandchildren: Breegan, Kazdyn, Kali, Kade, Lexi, and Talyn, a great family, and a circle of friends. During my mothering years I was able to work from home in the beauty shop that Phil built.  Many stories were told along with many laughs with the most wonderful clients. After raising my boys I ventured out and had a shop at Country Pines and Chancellor Gardens. I am so thankful for the friendships that were formed with both my clients and co-workers.

Mom’s greatest pleasures were going camping, hunting, and fishing with Dad and us boys. When she wasn’t in the outdoors she loved crocheting and anyone that knows her, knows she was a clean freak. Mom was always our biggest fan and never missed an event. We know that she will always be with us “cheering us on”.

Our loving mom was preceded in death by her parents.

We would like to thank our dad for the love and care he gave our mother in her last days. We also would like to thank Mary Wolford for the compassion and love she gave our mother. Mom was given the most amazing care by Dr. Hansen, Dianna, and his staff. We are indeed grateful for their compassion and professionalism.

Graveside services will be held Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at 2 p.m. at West Point Cemetery.

Services entrusted to Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.
