Martha Rosella Gilmer
December 21 1931 was a very good year. A year blessed with the birth of a little girl who will grow up to be the best Wife, Mother and Grandmother imaginable.
Mom was born in Tennessee, raised by loving parents and gifted with a strong sense of God's love and hospitality. We were blessed to grow up and live in a home where no one was a stranger. She married Leo Gilmer in the fall of 1952. She had 4 children, Don Gilmer, who lives in Florida. Linda Gilmer, who went home to be with the Lord in 1999, Jeff Gilmer who lives in Bountiful, Utah, and Andrew Gilmer, who went home to be with the Lord at birth in 1966. Dad got there first in 1995.
Mom worked in hospitals for over 50 years, she worked with sick children, the elderly and her last 16 years in a cardiac lab. She never was without compassion to those around her.
We, the lucky kids and grandchildren received lots of love and attention, and of course great food. Grandmas are best for love and chocolate cake, and her world famous fried chicken dinners, really! Folks from China, Australia, Haiti and Italy will all tell you they had the best fried chicken dinner ever at Mimi's table.
Mimi, the name her grandchildren called her, will be remembered as a person of love and comfort and all good things. Sweet is the best single word description of her. She has four grandchildren; Jeffrey, Bethany, Laurel and James and two great- grandchildren, Ellis and Calder. She has a beloved older brother, Wayne and many dear friends from coast to coast.
She is home with Jesus now, in a place of pure joy, reunited with those who have gone before her.
We mourn the loss of our Mother, Sister and Grandma. We will miss you for the rest of our days. But we do not mourn and grieve as those who have no hope, we will someday be together again, forever. That was her strong convection and ours, and we are comforted.
1 Thessalonians 4:13-18
