Martha Laura Montoya

December 5, 1935 ~ September 26, 2016

Martha Laura Montoya, 80, passed away on Monday, September 26, 2016.  The second of six children, Martha was born on December 5, 1935 in Mora, New Mexico, to Eugenio Teodoro and Virginia Angelica Martinez. She was raised in Mora and later moved with her family to Rawlins, Wyoming.  Martha was a hard worker.

She met Fred A. Montoya and they were married in Rawlins in 1956, later settling in Ogden in the early 1970s, where they remained to raise their sons.  Fred passed away in 1993 after 35 wonderful years of marriage together.  Martha endured this trial of her faith with God’s help and the support of her family.

Martha was an active and faithful member of New Hope Assembly of God where she served as Women’s President for many years, as well as a Deaconess.

A loving and devoted mother and a meticulous homemaker, Martha loved spending time with her grandchildren. She will be remembered for her amazing tortillas, which she often sent home with family. Although Martha was soft-spoken she had a contagious laugh.  Martha enjoyed thrift stores in her later years; window shopping with friends could take hours.  She had a green thumb; flowers seemed to bloom in her presence.

A Christian woman, an awesome sister, and a prayer warrior, Martha’s last words were “Que Dios Me Ayuda” or “May God Help Me”.

Martha is survived by her sons, Lyle A. (Esther) Montoya, Roy, UT and Darryl G. (Dorothy) Montoya, Schnecksville, PA; four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; and siblings, Bessie (Eppie) Esquibel, Triny Martinez, and Tony S. Martinez all of Rawlins, WY; and sister-in-law, Albina “Sweetie” Martinez, Questa, New Mexico.  She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and siblings, Fred Martinez who passed at 29 and Tony Martinez who passed at 9.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 1, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.  Friends may visit with family on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary.  Interment, Ogden City Cemetery.
