Martin Wesley Doncouse

December 31, 1934 ~ May 15, 2021

Martin Wesley Doncouse, age 86, of South Ogden, UT, passed away May 15, 2021 in his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born to Marvin Sylvester Doncouse, and Elizabeth Mary Brown on December 31, 1934 in Grosse Ile, Michigan.

Growing up in Michigan, Marty had many great stories of his time with his father and uncles. He loved to go see the beloved Detroit Tigers. He loved playing and watching baseball, and often would have a baseball game on TV in the background. There were many stories of Marty as a young mischievous child, which tells us where the children and grandchildren got it from, also how his mother’s hair turned grey.

Martin served with distinction in the United States Navy from September 5, 1952 to December 1955 and worked many years as an award-winning salesman, truck driver, and tour bus driver. As he told it he was able to get the tour bus driver job by hounding them every day until they hired him. Deliveries to Alaska would come back with fish for the family that Marty had caught, and he enjoyed lobster in Maine. He told stories of delivering furniture with Ruth by his side. It was impressive that she was able to drive the big rig and help move heavy furniture that was one of the many amazing things he loved about her. He loved chatting with the guests on the tour busses he drove and especially enjoyed his time driving for the Salt Lake City 2002 Olympics.

Martin married his sweetheart Ruth Ann Morrow on December 20, 1968 and were sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple on March 24, 1970. They moved to Utah where they spent most of their life. He always talked about the love they shared, and how lucky he was to be with her. Being by her side again will be a joyful reunion.

Martin Doncouse was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings. He loved serving in the bishopric and enjoyed socializing with the members. He had an infectious laugh and smile and could tell stories with the best of them. He loved his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed helping Ruth in the garden, traveling, sports, and fishing. One of his favorite pastimes was hiding leftover homemade pumpkin pie around the house so the children wouldn’t eat it all. He spent his retirement traveling the country with Ruth, they made their home in Hooper and Washington, Utah.

We would like to thank the staff of TREEO in South Ogden for making sure he had amazing meals and smiling faces every day for his last three years, he especially loved the root beer on tap.

Martin was preceded in death by his parents and brother, John Wesley Doncouse; his first wife, Marsha Slade; his eternal companion, Ruth Ann Doncouse and his daughter, Deborah Doncouse. He is survived by his sister, Patricia (Jack) Place and brother, Ronald (Ella) Doncouse. He is also survived by his children, Martin David (Karen) Doncouse, Theresa Elizabeth Simpson, Russell Tracey (Laura) Doncouse, and Martin Patrick (Estella) Doncouse; as well as 17 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.
