Martin Rivera Garcia, 75, of Ogden, passed away peacefully at his daughter’s home on July 31, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Born September 19, 1948, in Lubbock, Texas, Martin was the son of Jose Duran and Aurora Rivera Garcia.
After completing high school, Martin enlisted in the United States Army and served honorably during the Vietnam War as a door-gunner – a position most soldiers didn’t come home from.
Martin went on to study at Weber State University and became a journeyman millwright and worked and retired from the same facility for over 30 years. He was so qualified at his job that he was asked to go and start a flour mill in South America, but Martin was humble and content to remain in the U.S. where he could be close to his family.
Martin was married to Gloria Lovato in the fall of 1968 in Riverdale, Utah, but they later divorced.
He will be remembered for his sense of humor, his incredible work ethic, his devotion to family, and for his patriotism.
Martin is survived by his children, Everett (Andra) Lee and Martin F. “Junior” Garcia both of Ogden; Richard J. (Rachel) Garcia of Logan; Amanda (Danny) Garcia Quintana of Roy; Yolanda (Edgar) Garcia Diaz and Andrew N. (Jamie) Garcia both of Ogden; “bonus daughter”, Amanda Flores also of Ogden; 35 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren; sisters, Aurora “Boise” (Arnulfo) Garcia of Lubbock, TX and Lucy Garcia of Ogden; and brothers, Jesse Garcia and Johnny Garcia both of Ogden; and by many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jose and Aurora Garcia; by his brothers, Jose Ruben Garcia, Joe Rosas, Jimmy Garcia, Gilbert Garcia, and Pete Garcia; and by sister, Rosalinda Garcia.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at 2 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd, where military honors will be accorded. Friends may visit with family on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. with Rosary at 7 p.m. and Saturday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the mortuary.
