Marvin “Marv” Stratford Rabe
On July 4, 2017, after going for an enjoyable ride with his family, in his 1964 “T-Bird”, Marvin Stratford Rabe “Marv” passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by family members. He was 94 years old.
Marv is survived by his wife, Janet Hansen Rabe and his children, Lynne (Arnold) Garzino, Marie (Lee) Crowton, Brad (Ann) Rabe, and Bill (Fran) Loos. He has 15 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Marlene (Ted) Lundstrom. He was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his only brother, Fred and two sisters, Beverly and Shirley
He was born on September 6, 1922, and raised in Ogden, Utah to Fred C. and Maude S. Rabe. He married Barbara Christensen, his high school sweetheart, in 1944. She passed away in 1989. He later married Janet Hansen in 2004.
He enlisted in the Army AirCorp in 1942. Upon being discharged at the end of WWII, he pursued outdoor interests, and became an avid skier, golfer, fly fisherman, and lifelong BYU fan. He credited his good health and longevity to being able to work and never retire. He was still a beloved employee at Heiner’s Insurance. He held the oldest active insurance license in the State of Utah. He served in various offices in the Ogden Exchange Club for over 30 years. He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
The party never really started until Marv arrived, telling many stories, singing thousands of songs, and reliving memories of family and friends. His wit, humor, and loving spirit will forever be missed.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 8, 2017 at 2 p.m. at the Canyon Hollows Ward, 1550 Rushton Street, Ogden. Friends may visit with family on Saturday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the church. Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd. Services entrusted to Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to Wounded Warriors.
