Mary Joyce Meurer entered this world on May 15, 1947 in Louisville, Kentucky. She was a daddy’s girl and a tomboy who loved to run, play, and stir up trouble. Mary decided there were too many other girls named Mary at St. Helen’s grade school so she decided to go by Joyce at a young age. In high school she took Home Ec classes and became a great seamstress. More than anything she wanted to be a wife and a mother, and to create a beautiful home, all of which she accomplished. Joyce graduated from Presentation Academy in 1965 and was soon engaged to Mike Bush who she had dated during high school. Mike and Joyce married on May 14, 1966 and made their first home in Orlando, Florida where Mike was stationed with the Air Force. Mike and Joyce started their family with daughter Eva, followed by sons Eric and Evan.
Mike’s military service, schooling, and career led the family all over the country, eventually settling them in Ogden, Utah. Joyce was a wonderful mom, homemaker, artist, decorator, quilter, gardener, and cook. An avid reader herself, Joyce instilled a love of reading in all of her children, making the most of the public library wherever they lived. She was the queen of thrift store shopping and could always see the possibilities where other people only saw junk. She loved babies and kids and was the first to lend a helping hand to people in need. Mike and Joyce divorced after twenty years of marriage. Joyce remarried in 1994 to Kent Angell in Clearfield, Utah, where they made their home. Kent was holding her hand when she took her last breath on Christmas Day 2023.
Joyce is survived by her husband, Kent Angell of Clearfield, Utah, daughter Eva Bush of Louisville, Kentucky, son Eric Bush (Melanie Butler) of Ogden, Utah , son Evan Bush (Neil Werfel) of Athens, Georgia, stepdaughter Allison Johnson (Kris) and grandchildren Anthony, Braden, and Skyler White. She is also survived by sisters Patricia Meurer, Carolyn Rodgers, and Linda Sanders (Carl), nieces Jennifer Vale (Paul), Shannon Scheuerle (Mark), Elizabeth Kratz, Laura Sanders, and nephew Neal Bruder (Slawa). Joyce was predeceased by her father William Henry Meurer, and her mother Leona Catherine Yunt Meurer.
