ROY – Mary Simpson Barber, our mother, great-grandmother, sister and friend, passed away Wednesday, November 21, 2007.
She was born November 29, 1921 in Ogden, Utah to George and Gladys Hanks Simpson
Mary was raised and educated in Ogden, graduating from Ogden High School in 1940.
She met the love of her life, Kent W. Barber at the Root Beer Barrel in Clearfield. They were married on August 28, 1941, for time and all eternity, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
Mary and Kent were blessed with seven beautiful children. She was a full time mother and later worked and retired from the Davis School District as a secretary. She taught piano for many years.
Mary was a beautiful lady inside and out. She was kind, loving, caring and generous to all that she knew and anyone that knew Mary loved her.
Her children, grandchildren and friends were the joy of her life. She kept her family close with many parties and outings. She loved to go fishing and boating. She made beautiful quilts and afghans. She also loved music, singing with many choirs and in a trio for many years. She had many callings for the LDS church and was an accomplished pianist playing the organ for over 50 years in her ward.
Mary is survived by her children, David K., Salt Lake City; Reed (Alison) Barber, Ogden; Marilyn, Farr West; Nyla (Jim) Wright, Clinton; Eileen, Chandler, AZ; Carl (Tina) Barber, Roy. She is also survived by a brother, Wayne Simpson, two sisters, Fawn Shaw and Margaret Taylor, two sister-in-laws, Cleone Cook and Beth Barber, two brother-in-laws, Ben Barber and Norman Barber.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Kent, and a son, Paul Morris.
The family would like to thank the nurses and caregivers at Beehive Homes and Heritage Park in Roy, and Applegate Hospice, for their loving care.
Mother, we love you and will miss you greatly.
Funeral services will be held Monday, November 26th at 11:00 a.m. at the Clinton 25th Ward Chapel, 2841 West 1300 North.
Friends and family may call on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South and Monday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m., at the church.
Interment, Syracuse City Cemetery.
