Mary “May” Dato, 89, returned to her heavenly home June 12, 2019 at Fairfield Village in Layton, Utah. Her devotion to her family and firm belief of God supported her in her last few days and gave her peace.
She was born July 1, 1929 in Liverpool, England the daughter of Bernard and Bridget McNally Sweeney. Raised in Liverpool, England she was immersed in her Catholic faith, which would ultimately be her lifelong support from an early age.
She immigrated to the US after marrying USAF serviceman Samuel Dato. They lived in multiple locations throughout the United States, ultimately settling in Layton, Utah.
A homemaker, Mary worked in her later years at Hill Air Force Base and retired as a retail manager at the Base Exchange.
She was a devoted parishioner at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. Mary was a woman of faith who loved her family, particularly her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mary loved to chat, bake, sew and fiddle with the thermostat. She loved BINGO nights on base with friends and her late night BBC shows.
Surviving are her children, Anthony (Annie) Dato, Southern Utah; Dominic (Kandace) Dato, Park City, UT; Lorraine (Gregg) Lowell, Port St. Lucie, FL; and her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by her parents, brother, husband, Samuel Dato in 2009, son, Joseph Dato in 2005, and great-grand-daughter, London Layton in 2015.
Family and friends are invited to attend and celebrate May’s life on Sunday June 16, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.
Graveside services will be held Monday, June 17, 2019 at 10 a.m. at Lindquist’s Memorial Park at Layton, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.
