Sister Mary Margaret De Marco 1921 a€" 2010

Our Aunt Mary passed away peacefully on April 9, 2010 with her beloved family at her side. She left a bit of herself in the hearts of each of her three generation of her surviving nieces and nephews. Mary DeMarco was the third child born to Vincenzo and Teresa DeMarco on January 27, 1921 in Carbon County, Utah.

At the age of eight, Mary contracted spinal meningitis which left her deaf. She became an expert in reading lips. Being deaf did not stop her from doing what she wanted to do. She had a strong devotion to God, at the age of 22 she became a Sister of Faith. In 1948 she entered the Monastery School for Girls in Tacoma, Washington.

For 34 years Sister Mary Margaret was the head cook for the monastery. She was famous for her cheese soufflAC., fried chicken, homemade bread and pancakes.

In 1982 Mary took a dispensation of vows and moved back to Utah to be with her family. She learned how to crochet and won 1st place for her tablecloth at the Davis County Fair. She found laughter and always smiled with everything she learned to do.

It didn''t take long for Mary to get back into a kitchen and cooking. She worked at Lakeview Hospital and at the Golden Years Senior Center in Bountiful. She loved being a volunteer worker at the Center, and she was always willing to do what was asked of her.

Mary received certificates of appreciation, recognition of contribution, employee service awards and the spectacular award "The Book of Golden Deeds 2006."

On Mary''s behalf, the family would like to thank everyone who helped and was a part of her life, your time and effort will not be forgotten. A special thanks to her Godchild.

Mary was preceded in death by her mother and father, brothers John DeMarco Sr., Louie DeMarco and sister Rose Steinburg.

Friends and family are invited to join us for graveside services, Thursday, April 15, 2010 at11 am at the Bountiful City Cemetery, 2224 S. 200 W. under the direction of Lindquist''s Bountiful Mortuary.
